How do you see yourself integrating available resources in your unit and lesson plans?
AMERICAN HISTORY MUSEUM:
The science unit that I have planned for my students is about digestion, so one of the most important aspects I must bear in mind is how to promote healthy habits in my students' daily lives.
In the American History Museum, I saw an amazing and very interesting exhibition about food in the US.
There were lots of windows with different topics about food in general: harvesters, snack time, food on the go, processed food...
I would like my students to see all those topic, because they can learn a lot about how much the concept of food has changed throughout the time, but I would like them to focus their attention on the GOOD FOOD MOVEMENT and on the SNACK TIME, so they can compare and understand how important it is to have a balanced diet. (see pictures attached to check all topics).
I would ask my students to write some information down about their typical school lunch, the snacks they usually have at home, the normal type of meals they have for dinner at home...
Then, I would ask them to check if those foods are healthy or not, moving around the exhibition writing down their thoughts and ideas about it.
Next, I would like my students to create their own school daily/weekly menu (depending on the students' ages and abilities), helping themselves by observing all the displays, posters and items around them.
Finally, I would make my students work in groups of four to share all the information, to help them improve their healthy eating in a practical way.
What other sources of information did you find that will be useful to you?
