CONTENTS:
Teaching methodologies, techniques and activities that can be used in all the CLIL subjects in primary schools to demonstrate that they must be taught in a global way, using projects that are meaningful to our students rather than separate and isolated topics.
Creative writing and storytelling as cross-curricular projects, Non-verbal language as positive evidence of language acquisition, Team work to enhance communicative skills, Gallery walk as a useful strategy to boost inspiration, Brainstorm ideas to start planning any given task or assignment, Tableaux strategy as a different outcome of an activity,
METHODOLOGY:
The workshop will be very interactive and dynamic, mainly because the participants will be interacting throughout the whole session. This specific type of session will improve people’s communicative abilities since they find themselves in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere where they can have fun, as well as acquire new teaching strategies.
TIMING:
1. RANDOM GROUPING STRATEGY: popsicle sticks to create 5 team.
2. STORY PLANNING AS A WHOLE CLASS ACTIVITY: • Settings (green team) • Characters (orange team) • Transport (blue team) • Action (red team) • Animals (yellow team)
3. QUIET GROUP WORK (LEGO bricks activity): every person has 5-10 Lego bricks and the goal of the game is to put them inside the paper creating a character, an animal, a transport, a setting or an action. Talking is not allowed! Aims: Not leaving anyone behind! Communication without words! Non-verbal language! Body language! Cooperation! Following patterns! Eye contact! Patience when waiting for your turn!
4. MESSY TEAM WORK: the groups will be able to talk and decide what their character/setting/animal/transport/action can look like. Everybody has to participate in the building of their figure by adding some brick to the main idea. Give out markers so they can complete their ideas with drawings, notes, sticky notes... There are no wrong answers! Creativity rules! Think outside the box! Get crazy and have fun!
5. GALLERY WALK: the groups will be moving around the five tables, observing the art projects on the posters. It’s an art exhibition, make the most of it! Appreciate and respect what everyone has done!
6. TABLEAUX: instead of writing the story in groups, the groups will represent their character/ setting/ animal/ transport/ action they have created together with a still image made with all the members of the group. When all the groups are ready, one a time will represent their image and describe it with one word or one sound. Be overdramatic and over enthusiastic! Laugh and enjoy yourself!

Teaching through games/ drama/ art/ music have fun in your lessons!
Make your students do lots of oral presentations to explain in front of the class (communication is the goal in all subjects): applied understanding!
Project based work that includes all subjects in a cross curricular way (science, art...)
Differentiation: make the work engaging, accessible and challenging. Vary the outcome!! Do we always have to do written tests?
Spread growth mindset and inspiration! Caring and open body language!
Creativity is the key: there are no wrong answers! Listen to your students’ ideas rather than making all the decisions about what to do next.
Learning through reflection and lots of teacher training (courses, conferences, talks, conversations with critical friends)
TIMING:
1. KEY STRATEGIES PRESENTATION. Show posters with 10 useful ideas and stick them on the walls on separate spaces.
2. WHAT AM I GOOD AT AS A TEACHER? The participants will stand next to the strategy they use the most: which poster best describes you as a teacher? Talk to the people next to you and reflect on your teaching style.
3. LOOK FOR THE POSSIBILITY FOR CHANGE! Ask the participants to stand next to the strategy they want to try to do a lot more: what do you think can help you improve as a teacher? Talk to each other about how you would like to use that strategy in your classroom. Focus on doing less, better!!!! Focus on the change that is worth doing. START SMALL, ACT FAST!
4. SPEED DATING…YOU WILL FIND YOUR TRUE LOVE! Teachers/students will stand in two rows. All the people must be facing each other so that everyone has a person to talk to. Then, rotate (only one row will move, the other row will stay still until the third time, where they start moving around). Participants will have to talk about what they have discussed earlier on. Do you have an Edu-crash already?
5. LET’S WRITE OUR THOUGHTS DOWN! Give out popsicle sticks in order to create 5 different groups: green, blue, white, red and yellow. What would you add that has worked for you as a teacher? Write in an A3 sheet of paper your ideas and decorate the poster as you wish to make it more visual and easy to understand. Mind maps and sketches are welcome!
6. GALLERY WALK! Stand up and move around the groups to see what teachers have been writing down. Be careful, you might get inspired!
